WAM is gearing up! Here are some upcoming WAM events; click on the event to see more details. Weekly WAM meetings are held at 5:00 - all volunteers are welcome and encouraged to attend!

WAM Volunteer Projects

We have something for everyone. Scroll below to read about our current volunteer projects:

This is your chance!

a) Farmer’s Market

Sign up alone, with a friend, or request a partner to table with you at the Saskatoon Farmer's Market! We'll set you up with a table and WAM materials, and you get to enjoy the bustle of the market. The market runs every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Shifts are as follows - consider making a beautiful morning or afternoon of it and signing up for more than one! Please indicate your availability on the Volunteer Sign-up form.

Saturdays: 8-10 / 10-12 / 12-2
Sundays: 11-1 / 1-3
Wednesday: 10-12 / 12-2

b) Festival tabling:

If you will be attending any of the following festivals and would like to represent WAM and do some tabling while you're there (and possibly get a free festival pass...!), please indicate your availability on the Volunteer Sign-up form! If you know of anyone from these festivals that would be good contacts for WAM, or any other festival that we are missing, please pass those along too!

  • July 2 - August 10: Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan
  • July 21 – August 9: The Fringe Festival, Broadway area
  • August 5 - 10: The Saskatoon Exhibition, Prairieland Park
  • August 14-26: Folkfest, Saskatoon
  • August 15-17: Northern Lights Bluegrass festival at Ness Creek

c) City events

Sign up to table for WAM, and attend a city event while you’re at it! Below are some examples of past events that WAM has been represented at! Please indicate your availability on the Volunteer Sign-up form.

  • Civic Breakfast - A great pancake breakfast served by local celebrities at City Hall
  • Waterfront Art Fair, held at River Landing
  • Children's Art Adventure - Free art project for kids and families at the Mendel Art Gallery.
  • National Aboriginal Day
  • In Motion Manulife National Physical Activity Institute
  • Nuclear Myth-Busting(Information courtesy http://www.saskatoonevents.com/)

    2. Garden, seed, or harvest for WAM!

    The U of S horticulture club and the We Are Many festival need assistance planting and harvesting produce. Please indicate your availability on the Volunteer Sign-up form.

    Saturday, August 16 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (Harvesting)
    Sunday, August 17 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (Harvesting)

    You can also volunteer with U of S Horticultural on your own by contacting Steffen at sbb859@mail.usask.ca.

    3. Film, Video, Design, or Program for WAM!

    Are you interested in film, video editing and production, graphic or website design, or computer and web programming? Let us know when you fill out the Volunteer Sign-up form to volunteer, and we will find the perfect project for you! Everything from the WAM logo, to the website, to our festival videos will have been produced by volunteers just like you. Two big upcoming projects are:

    • Painting enviro-murals across Saskatoon
    • Designing and making WAM poster boards
    • Suggest your own!

    4. Research or write for WAM!

    Interested in researching or writing for WAM? Here are a few projects that may interest you, and we encourage you to propose your own when you complete the Volunteer Sign-up form.

    • Research the city’s water bottled water policy
    • Talk to the city’s various Business Improvement Districts and design a program to reduce restaurant take-out waste
    • Collaborate with the Public Health District to make our Saskatoon Health Services greener!
    • Your idea goes here!

    5. Publicize or poster for WAM!

    Are you interested in working on publicity and public relations? Our outreach coordinator would be more than happy to have an extra hand – sign up on theVolunteer Sign-up Form!

    • Help us tailor our media package to specific media sources
    • Market our promotional video
    • Spread the WAM word by postering and handing out WAM stickers to affiliated businesses
    • A new idea to help get people out to the festival!

    6. Work on specialized WAM projects or design and lead your own!

    We currently have a number of “specialized” WAM projects - please indicate if you want to work on a specific project when you complete theVolunteer Sign-up form!

    • Bessborough toilets (tentative): Join a 20-30 WAM volunteer team and storm the Bess to install 1-L bottles in each of their toilets
    • Stuffing Party: Come hang out with some WAM volunteers and staff and do some easy envelope stuffing... free food, eh?
    • Volunteer Socials: Please indicate if you are interested and excited to organize some volunteer socials!
    • Online video project: We would like to run an online WAM video campaign (check out www.24hoursfordarfur.org/ for an idea); please e-mail if you are interested in helping out! Not particular experience necessary.
    • Ban Bottled Water: A campaign to ban bottled water; get involved through research, contact with the city, and some networking with other water advocacy groups; we will provide all necessary contacts.
    • Reusable container campaign: In order to reduce waste at restaurants and fast food places, help us design and implement a campaign that will give Saskatonians discounts for using reusable containers and cups.

    Or, design your own project! As you can probably tell by now, we love new ideas and projects! Propose one when you fill out theVolunteer Sign-up form , and we can provide the resources and support necessary to make it a success!

    7. Get Trained at the YAG - Youth Action Gathering!

    The Sierra Club of Saskatoon is putting on a 4-day conference in early August to help train your volunteers and activists. Please indicate if you are interested in hearing more about this great event as the date approaches - check off the appropriate box on the Volunteer Sign-up Form!

    8. Volunteer at the Festival!

    For a festival as huge as WAM, we'll need all the help we can get - every volunteer is crucial! More information will be coming out in early August with details on volunteering at the festival; in the meantime, put your name on our volunteer list by filling out theVolunteer-sign upform!
